2 nd DAY/SUNDAY PALERMO – CEFALU’ - CATANIA After a buffet breakfast, depart to Cefalù, charmin g coastal town, a former fishing village which is a lso home to a breathtaking Norman Cathedral, famous for its Mosaic of Christ Pantocra ctor – a stunning Byzantine mosaic that’s considere d as one of the most important pieces of religious artwork in Sicily. Take a strol l to the city centre and down main street to reach the Cathedral and the medieval wash- house built in the rock. Time at leisure to relax a t a cafe of your choice for lunch ON YOUR OWN. Proc eed to Catania, the town known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava stone from mount Etna. Walkin g tour through Via Etnea, the Baroque street "Via Crociferi", the Piazza Duomo wi th the Cathedral and the "Liotru" statue, symbol of the city, the roman Amphitheatre. 3 rd DAY/MONDAY CATANIA – SIRACUSA – NOTO - CATANIA After a buffet breakfast, depart to Syracuse to vis it the most beautiful Greek colony of Sicily. Visit of the archaeological park “Neapolis”, including the famous Latomie of the Paradise, the G reek Theatre and the Dyonisios “Ear”. Visit the isl and of Ortigia, the small baroque old city centre of Siracusa: here you can admire th e Cathedral, which is built on the site of the Temp le of Minerva, the legendary “Fontana Arethusa” and the Temple of Apollo. Enjoy time at leisure to wander around Ortigia, full of s hops and cafés. Lunch ON YOUR OWN. In the afternoon, proceed to Noto, one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily renowned for the ha rmony and unity of its Baroque style and today declared a World Heritage Site by U NESCO. Back to Catania: dinner and overnight in yo ur Hotel.
4 th DAY/TUESDAY CATANIA – MOUNT ETNA honey tasting – TAORMINA - CATANIA After a buffet breakfast, weather conditions permit ting, excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active v olcano in Europe. Across fascinating landscape, we will reach a height of 19 00 metres to visit the Sylvester Craters where you can enjoy a spectacular panorama over the Ionian Sea. Lunch in a local restaurant on Mt. Etna (or Taormina in low season). On the way s top to the village of Zafferana Etnea, "the City of Honey" to visit a beautiful pla ce where they produce honey and taste the precious nectar made by skilled hands. Continue to Taormina, charming city called "the pea rl of the Ionian Sea", founded in 400 BC and beauti fully located overlooking the sea and the peak of Mount Etna. Enjoy time at leisure t o shop for handmade lace, coral jewels, ceramics, h ome-made sweets and preserves down “Corso Umberto” or simply walk through its ti ny streets. Individual visit of the fascinating Gre ek-Roman theatre. Back to your Hotel in Catania: dinner and overnight.
5 th DAY /WEDNESDAY CATANIA – PIAZZA ARMERINA – AG RIGENTO After a buffet breakfast, depart to Piazza Armerina in the inland of Sicily, to visit the worldwide k nown Villa Romana del Casale: it is the richest, largest and most complex collection of lat e Roman mosaics in the world and a UNESCO World Her itage Site. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Valley Of Temples of Agrigento, a UNESCO World Her itage Site: guided tour of the Valley including the Temple of Concord, which is in almost perfectly preserved conditions, Juno and He racles that represent the most beautiful example of the Greek Civilization in Sici ly. 6 th DAY/THURSDAY AGRIGENTO – SELINUNTE lunch in a farmhouse – ERICE (*) - PALERMO After a buffet breakfast, depart to the Archaeologi cal Park of Selinunte, the largest in the Mediterra nean area with the impressive Temples and Acropolis. Stop in a local farmhouse fa mous for olive oil production where, before lunch, it will be possible to have an oil tasting of local production. Continue to Erice, a medieval town full of myth, history and art on the summit of Monte San Giuliano: walk through its winding lanes, inner courtyards and cob bled streets. Proceed to Palermo. Accommodation, di nner and overnight at Hotel MERCURE PALERMO EXCELSIOR. 7 th DAY/FRIDAY PALERMO – MONREALE – PALERMO (MONTE PELLEGRINO/CAPO MARKET OPTIONAL) After a buffet breakfast, depart to Monreale to adm ire the Cathedral with its splendid 12th century mo saics representing a complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments, and the Cloist er of the Benedictines Abbey with its Moorish archi tecture. Continue with the visit of the Capital of Sicily, Palermo, one of the riche st towns in the island for history and art: the Ca thedral, the Palace of the Normans and its superb “Palatina" Chapel; enjoy a panoramic tour of the historical centre (the "Quattro Canti" , the Opera House, the Pretoria Square). Back to your Hotel to have lunch lunch. A fetrnoon at leisure or optional excursion to Monte Pellegrino, the most famous mountain in Palermo, to arrive at the Shrine of San ta Rosalia, the Patron Saint of the city; from the viewpoint enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Conca d'Oro.
